BME is ranked 485 on the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2024, published on December 5 2023, which assesses universities based on three key indicators: environmental impact (45%), social impact (45%) and governance (10%).

QS compiled the ranking assessing the universities based on over fifty different criteria including whether the institution has a sustainability research site, records its annual fresh water and energy consumption and has active research collaborations with companies on the Forbes 2000 list. QS also considered whether the university has a Climate Change Strategy and a Gender Equality Plan.
In the environmental impact category of the ranking, BME achieved the 375th place. Within this category, BME was the most successful in the environmental sustainability indicator where it ranked 131 from the 1400 universities featured.
BME trains professionals in this area in both technical and economic fields in the MA programmes of Environmental Engineering and Regional and Environmental Economics. In addition, the institution’s management has made it a priority to study sustainability based on the UN’s 17 SDGs as well as to identify, introduce, support and promote sustainable institutional operations and environmental solutions.
In March 2023, BME was also ranked high in the QS World University Rankings by Subject, ranking 224 in Engineering and Technology category and in the top 200 in mechanical engineering and architecture training programmes. In the QS World Ranking published in June, BME moved up over a hundred places to 741-750.
