How many semesters per programme?
Bachelor (BSc) Programmes
Most bachelor programmes at BME are 7 semesters long, with a few exceptions:
· Civil Engineer BSc – 8 semesters
· Mathematics BSc – 6 semesters
· Physics BSc – 6 semesters
(All other standard BSc programmes — e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electrical Engineering — are 7 semesters.)
Master (MSc) Programmes
Most MSc programmes at BME are 4 semesters long, but there are a few shorter ones:
· Construction Information Technology Engineer MSc – 3 semesters
· Infrastructural Engineer MSc – 3 semesters
· Land Surveying and Geographical Information Systems Engineering MSc – 3 semesters
· Structural Engineer MSc – 3 semesters
Single-cycle (One-Tier) Master’s
· Architectural Engineering (Single-cycle MSc / one-tier master’s) – 10 semesters
What are the admission requirements?
For BSc programmes and the single-cycle MSc:
Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Copy of passport
High school certificate
Proof of English language proficiency
Receipt of the transfer of the EUR 150 application fee
For MSc programmes:
Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Copy of passport
BSc degree certificate
Transcript(s) of previous studies
Two letters of recommendation

Receipt of the transfer of the EUR 150 application fee
Note: Individual faculties may establish additional admission requirements, such as specific academic backgrounds or minimum language test scores higher than the general BME requirements.

For transfer applicants, the relevant faculty evaluates the previous studies and determines whether an admission test is required.

Are there scholarship opportunities for international students?
You may apply to BME with Hungarian state-funded scholarships, such as:
– The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship – application deadline: 15 January each year!
Please note that, at present, BME does not offer merit-based scholarships.

Is there dormitory accommodation available for international students?
Dormitory accommodation is available for scholarship holders and in a limited number for fee-paying students.
Accepted students are strongly advised to arrange accommodation in advance. The BME International Mentor Team is available to assist with the search.
How much money do I need to live in Budapest?
The average monthly budget for a student is approximately EUR 700 or more, including accommodation, food, transportation, and other living expenses.
Currently, renting a room in a shared apartment costs around EUR 250–450 per month. A studio apartment typically costs EUR 450–600 per month, depending on size and location.
