BME has moved up a category in several disciplinary rankings. Uniquely in Hungary, BME was listed among the world’s best universities in engineering, sciences and economics alike.
In the 2024 British QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) ranking by subject, published on 10 April, BME is the only Hungarian higher education institution to be featured in the faculty area of Engineering, rated 243rd in the world. In the broad faculty area of Natural Sciences, BME has moved up from last year’s rank of 401-450 to the current position of 377.
This year, BME has entered two new rankings for the first time: Social Sciences & Management (ranked 501-550) and Environmental Sciences (510-520), expanding its total disciplinary rankings to three in broad faculty areas and twelve in narrow subject areas.
BME technical programmes were listed at prestigious places in the QS ranking in narrow subject areas as well. BME was ranked as the best and only Hungarian university in all five subject areas of engineering available at BME.
BME has moved up in four of the narrow subject areas compared to last year, making the top 200 in Civil & Structural Engineering, top 250 in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, top 300 in Computer Science & Information Systems, and the top 350 in Physics & Astronomy, overtaking ELTE’s Physics programme.
BME is ranked among the best 200 this year in the areas of mechanical engineering as well as flight engineering and production technology. Furthermore, our Chemical Engineering programme once again secured its position among the top 350 worldwide.
BME remains the only Hungarian university among the architectural programmes, listed among the best 240.
Our Mathematics programme has retained its position of 251-300 globally, sharing the top position in Hungary with ELTE.
BME was ranked among the top 400 universities of the world in Materials Science (as the only Hungarian institution in the category) as well as in Chemistry. In the faculty area of Social Sciences & Management, BME was also included in the narrow subject area of Business & Management Studies, achieving a rank of 551-600 globally.
QS is one of the most prestigious university rankings, rating the best 4-5% of the world’s universities. QS assessors have analysed the performance of the world’s 1559 higher education institutions this year.
QS has assessed more than 16,000 training programmes in five faculty areas and 55 narrow subject areas based on academic recognition, employers’ assessments, citations, h-index and international research collaborations.
