According to the announcement of the Royal Swedish Academy on Monday morning, Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine for the development of mRNA technology in 2023.
With Drew Weissman, Katalin Karikó, a Hungarian biochemist living in the United States, developed and patented the therapeutic application of mRNA containing modified nucleosides, with the help of which an effective vaccine against COVID-19 could be quickly produced.
This year, in June, the world-renowned research biologist received the title of BME János Neumann professor at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics.
