The MSc programme in Design and Development Engineering for a Circular Economy at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) takes a systems-level approach to the technical, economic and environmental dimensions of sustainability. Today’s increasingly rapid succession of environmental, economic and social challenges calls for new solutions based on innovative and complex thinking. The programme develops this mindset by introducing students to the principles and operation of the circular economy, resource-efficient technologies, sustainable value chains and advanced engineering solutions. By working on real-world problems and project-based assignments, students develop the ability to analyse complex systems and to design and develop innovative and sustainable solutions.
Applicants will have to take an online entrance examination, consisting of two parts. First, they need to take an online test. In case they pass the test successfully, they have to take part in an online motivational interview. During the interview applicants are expected to give an account of their professional interests, skills and training, and also to explain their motivation for joining the programme.
You can study at BME with a scholarship or as a self-funded student, by paying tuition fees. Various scholarships help you cover tuition fees and your living expenses during your studies. Successful PhD students may receive additional support from research grants.
The programme combines engineering, technological and economic knowledge with a systems-based approach to the circular economy. It focuses on resource efficiency, material and life-cycle thinking, digitalisation, and the design and development of innovative engineering solutions.
Circular Economy Methodologies; Sustainable Value Chains: Rethinking Systems;
Industry 360: Sustainable Industrial; Sustainable Engineering Career Path
New Life of Materials: From Waste to Value; Resource Optimization
Digital Engineering Toolbox; Sustainable Built Environment;
Circular Supply Chain; Modern Materials in the Circular Economy; Role of the chemical industry towards circular material
The sustainable transformation of industry and the economy is creating a growing demand for engineers who can combine technological innovation with the principles of the circular economy. Graduates can pursue careers as engineers and experts in industry, energy, environmental technologies, product and technology development, and R&D, as well as work in consultancy and the public sector. Their systems-level expertise enables them to design, develop and optimise technologies and processes, evaluate circular solutions, and manage complex innovation projects.
