Semiconductor Engineering MSc

Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics & Faculty of Natural Sciences

The English-language master’s programme (MSc) in Semiconductor Engineering is a joint programme of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics and the Faculty of Natural Sciences at BME, implemented in collaboration with industry partners such as Bosch, Semilab, and Infineon. The programme aims to alleviate the shortage of experts skilled in semiconductor technologies at both the national and European levels. It covers the entire value chain of the semiconductor industry, providing knowledge that ranges from semiconductor physics and materials science to manufacturing technology, integrated systems, and measurement technology, all the way to emerging information technology solutions.

Start September and February

Admission procedure: (i) Pre-screening of documents. BSc degree in Science or Engineering (STEM), with min. 18 ECTS/8 ECTS/7 ECTS/5 ECTS in mathematics/classical physics/informatics/measurement techniques and laboratory practice. A maximum of 18 credits of all these may be made up retroactively during the first year. (ii) Online (English) interview: knowledge and preparedness, communication skills, motivation and attitude. (iii) Decision: admission to MSc programme / rejection.

You can study at BME with a scholarship or as a self-funded student, by paying tuition fees. Various scholarships help you cover tuition fees and your living expenses during your studies. Successful PhD students may receive additional support from research grants.

Curriculum

You can study modern physics and microelectronics basics, as well as the physics of semiconductors, measurement techniques, semiconductor devices and electronics, semiconductor process technologies, integrated devices and chip design and semiconductor modeling. Finally, you choose a specialization.

Career options

The chips, computers, and smart devices produced by the semiconductor industry fundamentally shape our daily lives. Under the European Chips Act, Europe is committed to double its share of the global semiconductor market through significant investments. Meanwhile, the semiconductor industry is also developing rapidly in Hungary, with numerous domestic and international players. These developments are becoming particularly relevant due to the rise of artificial intelligence, which requires new, energy-efficient hardware architectures, like brain inspired chips. If you choose the master’s programme in semiconductor engineering, you’ll have the opportunity to work with the technologies of the future—whether in Hungary or anywhere in the world!
